Operatives of National Security have arrested 13 Chinese nationals and a Ghanaian in connection with the missing ECG containers at the Tema Port.

The suspects were arrested on Thursday during an intelligence-led operation.

According to authorities, these suspects are linked to two aluminium smelting companies located in Shai Hills.

Some of the items, including cables that were part of the consignment, were traced to an aluminium smelter owned by the Chinese, situated opposite the Shai Hills Game Reserve.

The cables were reportedly being melted into aluminium bars for export.

Meanwhile, authorities have launched a manhunt for another Chinese national who is currently on the run.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister John Jinapor on Thursday, March 27, revealed that authorities have retrieved 40 of the missing containers at a terminal in Kpone. He disclosed that an Indian national had been taken into custody in connection with the case.

According to Minister Jinapor, the arrested Indian businessman claimed he had legally purchased the containers last year, but investigations are ongoing to verify his statement.

“The information I got this morning is that already they have traced about 40 containers to a particular terminal or warehouse in Kpone, which belongs to an Indian national. They have confiscated all the 40 containers and moved them to a secured location,” the Minister stated.
