The Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA) has cautioned that it will exhume corpses buried at all cemeteries in the metropolis without the required permits.
In a statement signed by the head of Public Affairs at the AMA, Nuumo Blafo III, the assembly said some some families connive with grave wardens at various cemeteries in Accra to bury their corpses without paying for the grave space.
“The AMA is reminding the general public that it is illegal for people who have gone to bury their corpse to make payments to the cemetery wardens (sextons) for the allocation of burial space.
The statement also directed that all payments concerning space in the AMA-managed cemeteries for burial are to be paid at the authority's Public Health Department at Adjabeng (adjacent Kingsway building) and not at the cemeteries.
The authority also cautioned the public to desist from making such payments to grave wardens as that could result in  exhumation of their corpses and prosecution.
