Democracy Hub demo: Ama Governor, 8 others granted Ghc70k bail

Lawyer Elorm Ama Governor-Ababio, popularly known as Ama Governor together with eight other involved in the Democracy Hub protest has been slapped with GHc 70, 000 bail each with two sureties.

As part of the bail conditions, the accused persons must report to the police once a week and deposit their Ghana cards at the court registry.

The other eight individuals granted bail include Emmanuel Gyan, Emmanuel Kwabena Addo, Ziblim Yakubu, Oheneba Prempeh, Philip Owusu Kobina, Desmond Akisbik, Von Coffie, and Sadik Yakubu.

 

In a related case, an appeal concerning a similar bail denial involving Oliver Barker Vormawor, Felicity Nelson, and 10 others is currently under review.

The Democracy Hub protesters were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful gathering, unlawful damage, offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace, assaulting a public officer and defacement of public property.

The total protesters arrested during the demonstration numbered about 53.

The Democracy Hub embarked on a demonstration to register the displeasure of the devastating impact of illegal mining, popularly known as galasmey.
