Some editors of an online media house in Accra, Modern Ghana have been arrested by the National Security for allegedly hacking websites of other media houses.
PrimeNewsGhana's sources at the National Security reveals that the arrest follows a tip-off that a group has been engaged in some cybercrime activities targetted at other corporate Organisations.
According to inside information, initial investigations prove that the attacks are targetted at other media houses and that the suspects are affiliated with an online portal known as Modern Ghana.
The modus operandi has been to hack into the emails and servers of popular competing websites and newsrooms and intercept emails and stories being filed by correspondents for their own use.
Other hacks include the hacking of financial account information of competitors especially between correspondents, sources and stringers.
3 ModernGhana editors apprehended by Nat'l Security operatives
Three editors of ModernGhana were apprehended by National Security operatives who stormed their office yesterday, June 27 2019.
Editor-In-Chief of ModernGhana, William Nana Beeko said the raid was carried out after a publication was made about the National security minister Albert Kan Dapaah and New Patriotic Party MP Afenyo-Markin.
Mr Beeko said laptops belonging to the online news outlet were seized in the course of the raid and the whereabouts of his colleagues remain unknown.
Speaking to Starr FM, Beeko who is on leave said, “We don’t know where they are now. The incident happened today [Thursday].â€
A close associate of one of the arrested reporters known as Emmanuel Brintwum also said: “all efforts to know where exactly they have taken them have proven futile.â€
“We have tried the lines of his editors but it has not been fruitful. Emmanuel only managed to call a friend saying he is in the custody of national security,†the associate said.
