Ghana is set to host the 6th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC) in Accra on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

The summit, themed “Building a Secure and Prosperous Gulf of Guinea Region for Sustainable Development,” aims to assess the progress of the GGC and propose measures to enhance its objectives of promoting cooperation, peace, security, and sustainable development among member states.

The Gulf of Guinea Commission serves as a framework for consultation and cooperation among Gulf of Guinea countries, focusing on conflict prevention, management, and resolution, particularly in areas such as border demarcation and natural resource exploitation within overlapping Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs).

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the summit will be preceded by meetings of the Council of Ministers on August 5, 2024, and the Committee of Experts on August 4, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

This high-level gathering presents an opportunity for member states to reaffirm their commitment to regional cooperation and sustainable development, ensuring a secure and prosperous Gulf of Guinea region for future generations, the Ministry added.
