#TB: Hon. Adwoa Safo resigns from Parliament

The Deputy majority leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo has resigned as a member of the Pan African Parliament based in South Africa.

According to reports, her resignation comes after her appointment by the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo as a Minister of State in charge of Procurement.

Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo has been replaced by a first timer in Ghana’s Parliament Hon Cynthia Maamle Morrison who is the Member of Parliament (MPP for the Agona West Constituency following a decision by the Parliament of Ghana on Friday, April 7, 2017.

Meanwhile, days after her appointment by the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo as a Minister of State in charge of Procurement, Adwoa Safo promised to restructure government's procurement practices to ensure value for money for the state.

Addressing Parliament's Appointment Committee during her vetting, the Dome Kwabenya MP who is also the Deputy Majority Leader of the House said;

"We need to place emphasis on the procurement process to prevent our money from going down the drain"

Having obtained a Master’s Degree from the George Washington University in Procurement Management, she promised to bring her expertise to bear on the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) to ensure it fulfils its mandate.

"I will empower the Procurement Authority in overseeing the procurement process and advise the government on procurement and make sure that we follow the procedure", she said.
