Deputy Minister of Interior Henry Quartey has cautioned the Ghanaian public not to politicise the recent increase in armed robbery attacks in the country.
According to him, armed robbery is a national issue and the giving it a political dimension will not help the fight against crime.
Speaking on news analyses programme NewsFile, Henry Quartey has dismissed assertions that Ghana Police Service is not up to the task to fight crime.
Henry Quartey said per the commitment of Government to equip the Police, the Service will soon receive the necessary resources to boost their effort in the fight against armed robbery.
He believed with the Ghana Police Service been ranked 8th in Africa, it indicates that the service is not doing badly as Ghanaians are made to believe.
Armed robbery: expatriate attacked in Osu, one arrested
One suspect has been arrested in connection with a robbery incident at Osu in the Greater Accra region on Thursday, March 1, 2018.
An eyewitness narrated that three robbers who were on a motorbike attacked an expatriate amidst firing of gunshots around 8:30 pm close to Country Kitchen in Osu and snatched a money bag and laptop from the victim.
In an attempt to escape, a taxi driver ran his car into the motorbike of the assailants and residents rushed to the scene. Two of the robbers managed to escape leaving one behind who was arrested and nearly lynched.
Royal Motors Armed Robbery: Suspect arrested, 2 others shot dead
The Accra Regional Police have confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with a daylight robbery at Royal Motors at the North Industrial Area last Tuesday.
The suspect was apprehended by the police at a hide-out at Ashalaja a suburb of Accra.
Addressing a presser today March 2, 2018, the Regional Commander DCOP George Alex Mensah said two armed robbery suspects on the police most wanted list have been gunned down in a shoot-out at an undisclosed location.
The two, Raymond and Kwame alias Mafia, were wanted for crimes at a filling station at Agbogba and some break-ins at Forex Bureaus at Spintex.
