The Student Representative Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have kicked against the government's decision to form an Interim Governing Council for the school.
The government last week put together a seven-member Interim Council to stern the affairs of the school after the impasse.
The Interim Council are likely to face issues as the University Teachers Association of Ghana(UTAG), Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) and lately, the Student Representative Council (SRC) have all not shown support to the new authorities.
The SRC who are one of the parties involved in the conflict have also voiced their displeasure over government's decision.
In a vote of no-confidence statement to the Education Ministry, the student leaders asked that the decision to form an interim council be “reconsidered†and existing structures be “maintained.â€
“We believe that your good intentions may not be fruitful with these important stakeholders agitated and will even further harm academic activities on campus,†the SRC President said in the statement.
The student leaders noted that government’s manner of intervention is intrusive because they have settled their difference with the university management.
The statement referred to a meeting with embattled Vice-Chancellor Prof. Obiri Danso who is facing calls to resign.
That meeting resulted in the university’s management making sweeping concessions to the students including reinstating constitutionally student leaders it unilaterally removed from office.
It is now unclear whether all the stakeholders will be present as the Interim Council have scheduled a meeting on Monday.
