Former CHRAJ Boss Justice Emile Short has advised that the process of appointing the country’s first independent special prosecutor should be made transparent and open in the public eye.
He suggested that the position should be open for qualified persons to submit applications, after which the applicants are interviewed, shortlisted for the President to appoint from the list.
This according to him will put to rest doubts about the independence and integrity of the office.
Speaking in a radio interview on Thursday, he said, "Bring somebody who commands respect; this position should be advertised so that people can apply, then a committee will interview the applicants, after which a shortlist of about three names will be submitted to the President for him to appoint one."
"That will instill greater confidence in the office which is a very important tool to fight against corruption." he stressed.
Meanwhile, media reports speculate that Lawyer Akoto Ampaw is expected to be appointed by the President as the Special prosecutor in the coming weeks.

President Akufo Addo recently assented to 5 bills including the office of the special prosecutor bill to bring corrupt officials to book.
The bill is to establish the office of the Special Prosecutor as a specialized agency to investigate specific cases of corruption involving public officers, and politically exposed persons in the performance of their functions as well as individuals in the private sector implicated in the commission of corruption and prosecute these offences on the authority of the Attorney-General.
The Special Prosecutor’s office will be independent of the Executive, which observers believe will allow it to adequately deal with corruption-related issues which have plagued past governments.
