The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) have scheduled Friday December 17, 2021 for the National Standardized Test.

The upcoming National Standardised Test (NST) will be the first edition of the national assessment that will be administered by WAEC for Basic Four (4) pupils.

Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei-Adutwum, said the test is designed to generate requisite data for any needful intervention towards the educational sector.

"The first time we get national data on individual students is when they take the BECE, that is 11years after they begin their education journey. At this point, it's too late to do an intervention, whatever they did or did not do is done, they have to move on to Senior High School.

"There has been a call to action that we streamline our assessment process and also ensure that we have critical data to that will help us do intervention", he said on TV3.

Also, the Director-General of Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa indicated that the National Standardized Test (NST) has been designed to assess the entire educational system.

"The grading will not come in the form of first, second, third etc. The grading will come to let us know the areas where we need to improve on, the areas where we are doing better, the areas where we should concentrate on the teachers in their approaches and methodologies, the areas that should go to us as the overall supervisors

What we need to do to improve on teaching and learning so that at the end of the day we ensure that, by the time they get to their final year and they are writing their final exams, as many of them as possible are able to sail through".
