Over 1000 accidents recorded in Ashanti took 152 lives

The Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Road Safety Commission Samuel Asiamah has disclosed that the Commission recorded 1,028 lorry and motor accidents in the first half of 2017.

The 1028 accidents claimed 152 lives and 970 victims sustained various degrees of injury. The figure represents a 25% percent increase in road accidents as compared to 919 recorded in the first half of 2016.

According to the Director, 333 people were knocked down by lorries and motor bikes as against 227 recorded last year.

He added that most of the accidents happened on the Akomadan-Offinso road, Juaso-konongo- Kumasi road, Obuasi-Anwiankwanta-Bekwai- Kumasi road and the Kumasi metropolis. Private cars and motor bikes recorded a higher percentage of the 1028 accidents.

Speaking to the media, Samuel Asiamah, appealed to stakeholders in the country to join the efforts to reduce road traffic accidents.
