Police arrest juvenile who defiled 4-year-old girl

The juvenile who has been accused of allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl at Assin Adadientem in the Central Region has been arrested by the Police, Sunday.

The Director of Police Public Affairs, DSP Sheila Kesse Abayie Buckman confirmed the arrest saying, “The suspect is currently in police custody and police have also received the medical report on the examination of the victim. Investigations are still ongoing.”

The suspect was not arrested earlier because the father of the victim, who made the first report to the police did not come back to the station to lead the arrest. Again, the mother of the victim reported the matter to the chief who claimed the suspect was innocent after a ‘consultation with the town’s deity’.

The mother of the victim, Monica Nyarko recounted that she realized what had happened to her daughter when she was bathing her upon her return, but the girl was not willing to as she was in severe pain.

The 4-year-old later told her mother that one Kwabena had inserted his manhood in her in a toilet facility, and had warned her not to speak about it else she would be killed.

 Ms. Nyarko said that her daughter is in pain and this is really affecting her health.

The case has ignited the anger of the Ghanaian public including several organizations, Ministers, and the President, causing them to demand justice for the victim.

In an interview with Accra-based Joy FM, the Director of Police Public Affairs said the rights of both victim and suspect will be protected in pursuing the case.

“Let me state emphatically that Police will follow due process in handling the case, including the protection of the right of the victim and any right of the suspect as the law requires. And so the public should allow due process to be followed and not be hasty in drawing conclusion,” she said.

Meanwhile, the family of the victim has been relocated from the village.
