Sammy Gyamfi, others head to Supreme Court to fight mandatory Covid protocols at airport
National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi and three other Ghanaians have filed a writ at the Supreme Court claiming some of the mandatory protocols for Ghanaians arriving in the country infringe on their fundamental human rights.
Bernard Ackah Blah, Mawuko K. Kwame, Berys Ama Sarpong join Sammy Gyamfi to urge the Supreme Court declare the directive “that all persons 18 years and above arriving in Ghana will be required to provide evidence of full vaccination for a COVID-19 vaccine at the point of embarkation” an infringement on their right to freedom of movement.
They also fault the directive that states that “all unvaccinated Ghanaians and residents of Ghana who are currently outside the country and intend to return within 14 days from the midnight of the 14th December 2021 are exempted from the said directives. However, they would be vaccinated for COVID-19 upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport.”
Ghana imposes travel ban on Malta over Omicron
Ghana has initiated a travel ban on all travellers to and from Malta from today, Monday, December 20, 2021, due to the Omicron virus.
Ghana’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, which announced the ban, reveal further that Ghana does not recognise any vaccine certificate from the nation formed by a group of small islands.
The Ministry has therefore asked the general public to take note and adhere to the ban accordingly.
UG-UTAG to strike indefinitely from Jan 3
The University of Ghana branch of the University Teachers of Association of Ghana (UTAG) has served notice of indefinite strike action from January 3, 2022, in protest of a decision by the government to pay $1,600 as research allowance to be paid in 2024.
In a statement, UG-UTAG said its members overwhelmingly reject a Memorandum of Agreement that, among others, proposed the $1600 Research Allowance payable to UTAG members in 2024.
UG-UTAG explains that that agreement to pay lecturers $1,600 as research allowance in 2024 and another proposal for the government to complete a Labour Market Survey Report to review the Interim Market Premium by December 2021 for implementation in 2022, was reached on October 6, 2021, between a UTAG negotiation team and government.
EOCO advises AG to prosecute shareholders of defunct Savings and Loans Companies
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has in a statement said the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after investigations into specific cases of suspected financial crimes, has advised the Attorney General to prosecute the shareholders, directors or management of the defunct Savings and Loans Companies, Finance Houses, and Microfinance Institutions.
The Central Bank said in its public notices in 2019 announcing the revocation licences of certain defunct Savings and Loans Companies, Finance Houses, and Microfinance Institutions, the BoG cited a number of potentially criminal actions on the part of these institutions and their shareholders, directors or management, as the case may be.

President Akufo-Addo has asked NPP supporters to be proud of themselves that they produced a government that has been most diligent in improving the lives of Ghanaians.
President Akufo-Addo said this while addressing NPP supporters at their National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.
Akufo-Addo said he is aware that Ghanaians are currently going through hardships but he is working to fix things.
President Akufo-Addo also dared former President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress to show Ghanaians evidence of any thought-through policy while in opposition.
Mahama jabs Akufo-Addo in response to claim NDC has offered zero policy initiative
Former President John Mahama has jabbed President Nana Akufo-Addo in a reply to a claim by Akufo-Addo that NDC has offered a zero policy initiative since it went into opposition five years ago.
“I think the President must take his responsibilities seriously and focus on working to change the circumstances of our people, rather than the rabble-rousing skits he serves the nation,” Mr Mahama said in a Facebook post.
Momo agents to strike on Thursday over E-levy
The Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana (MMAAG) has hinted at plans to embark on industrial action on Thursday, December 23, 2021.
The agents say the intended industrial action is in response to the proposed 1.75% that will be charged as E-Levy on some mobile money transactions.
Police kill five ‘assassins’ at Gomoa Fetteh
Police have reportedly killed some five persons allegedly planning to assassinate the paramount chief of Gomoa Fetteh, Nana Abor Atta.
Reports indicated that the anti-robbery unit of the Ghana Police Service carried out the operation on Sunday, December 19, 2021, following a tip-off.
Police are yet to make an official statement on the incident.
Gyakie performs with dad at a live concert
Ghanaian songstress, Gyakie, performed with her dad, Nana Acheampong, for the first time at her maiden concert on Sunday, December 19, 2021.
The ‘Forever’ hitmaker earlier in a Twitter post announced that her dad will be performing with her on stage at the concert.
