The National Tenants Union of Ghana has called on the Ministry of Works and Housing to publicly disclose the list of beneficiaries who received disbursements from the National Rental Assistance Scheme (NRAS).

This call comes in response to former Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso Boakye’s assertion that 1,492 citizens received a total disbursement of GH 19 million through the NRAS.

However, the then-sector minister failed to give detailed information about the beneficiaries.

In a statement dated March 12, the Union contends that transparency in publishing the names of beneficiaries, along with their respective regions, will help shape the policy for the purpose it was made

Frederick Opoku, President of the Union further called for immediate suspension of the scheme for some concerns to be addressed.

"We request the Ministry of Housing to call for stakeholder engagement and further call for immediate suspension of the scheme for a full scale review to correct some anomalies we have found consequential to the success of the implementation of the scheme."

Among the issues raised are the high 24% interest rate on the rent loan, non-refundable loan processing fees of GHC 100.00, and the duration for which rent advance payments are made to beneficiaries.
