Mahama presents running mate to NDC’s NEC today

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama, is set to meet with the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) today March 7, 2024 to officially submit his nomination for running mate in accordance with the NDC constitution.

Earlier this morning, Mahama presented his nominee to the Council of Elders, a critical step in the party’s preparations for the upcoming general elections.

The NDC constitution mandates the party’s presidential candidate to nominate a running mate in consultation with the National Executive Committee and the National Council of Elders.

Mahama and the NDC expressed their strong commitment that will work tirelessly to advance the interests of the Ghanaian people and guide the country towards recovery and a prosperous future.

Selecting a Running Mate is a crucial decision, and Mahama is confident that his nominee embodies the values and vision of the NDC and will contribute to a successful electoral campaign.

As the leader of the NDC, Mahama remains dedicated to representing the interests of all Ghanaians and working towards building the Ghana that they envision together.

EC releases calendar for 2024 elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) will receive nominations of candidates for this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections from September 9 to 13 in a major countdown to the climax of the political season.

New ministerial nominees to be vetted from March 5

Parliament’s Appointments Committee will next week begin vetting of the newly-nominated Ministers of State.

The nominees are expected to be vetted from Tuesday, 5 March 5 to 12, 2024.

Day 1 of the vetting will see Andrew Egyapa Mercer, Minister-designate, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture; Lydia Seyram Alhassan, Minister-designate, Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources; Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Minister-designate, Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development; Ophelia Mensah Hayford, Minister-designate, Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Darkoa Newman, Minister-designate, and Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection face the committee.

While, Kingsley Nyarko, Deputy Minister-designate, Education Ministry; Festus Awuah Kwofie, Deputy Minister-designate, Employment and Labour Ministry; Akwasi Konadu, Deputy Minister-designate, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources; and Musah Abdul Aziz Ayaba, Deputy Minister-designate, Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Development, are all expected to appear before the committee on the final day of the vetting.

The others will also take their turn in between the first and final days of the vetting.
