Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has filed his nomination forms ahead of the 2024 general elections.

He submitted the forms at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission in Accra on Monday, September 9.

Bawumia was accompanied by his Running Mate and Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Party’s National Chairman Stephen Ntim and General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong and some other leaders of the NPP.

Party executives, including the National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, General Secretary Justin Koduah Frimpong, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and other leading members of the NPP, are also at the EC to provide support and solidarity.

The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Mrs Jean Mensa highlighted the unprecedented nature of the submission, thanking Dr. Bawumia and confirming that a review of the forms would begin immediately.

“This is the first time that a sitting vice president has personally presented his nomination form to the Electoral Commission,” she said.

In his remarks, Dr. Bawumia emphasised the NPP's dedication to a peaceful electoral process and urged continued support for the Commission as they prepare for the upcoming elections.

“For me, it is personally a very historic opportunity to submit these forms for the first time as a presidential candidate,” he said.

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, is also expected to file his nomination later in the day.
