The Electoral Commission (EC) has published the ballot statistics for the upcoming 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
In a statement dated Monday, October 14, 2024, the EC stated that the ballot statistics will guide the printing of ballots ahead of the general elections.
The Commission highlighted that it considered the total number of voters on the 2024 Provisional Voters Register (PVR) plus a two percent increase to accommodate unforeseen circumstances. This strategy, they noted, ensures there will be enough ballots to cater to all registered voters while preventing shortages or unnecessary wastage.
While encouraging full voter turnout on Election Day, the Commission acknowledged that not every registered voter may cast a ballot. However, it expressed confidence that the 2% buffer will suffice in printing an adequate number of ballots for the election.
The EC reiterated that this methodology, adding a percentage increase to voter numbers, has been used since 1992 and has proven reliable in past elections.
The Commission has urged the public to trust in its ability to deliver on its mandate to organise fair and transparent elections.
