An Agona Swedru Magistrate court has granted an injunction against Cynthia Morrison’s candidacy as an independent parliamentary candidate for Agona West Constituency in the Central Region.
The court ordered her to not hold herself as an independent candidate and to refrain from any action regarding the nomination process for the Member of Parliament for the Agona West Constituency.
This order, which comes two months before the 2024 elections, holds until an ongoing legal case involving the MP is resolved.
Ms Morrison decided to run independently after alleging that her party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), treated her unfairly during the internal primary for the 2024 election.
She has been vocal in her criticisms of the party leadership, accusing them of scheming against her despite her contributions to the constituency and the party.
She also maintains that her desire to continue working for the development of Agona West informed her decision to contest as an independent candidate.
The incumbent MP lost with 152 votes, while Christopher Arthur secured the nomination with 240 votes.
She has previously contested and won the seat on the ticket of the NPP in 2016 and 2020.
