The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has acknowledged receipt of a letter written by Alan Kyerematen to withdraw from the presidential race.
The party says it notes with regret that the former Trade Minister has decided to withdraw from the November 4 Presidential Primary.
In a release issued on Wednesday, September 6, the NPP stressed its Presidential Elections Committee and the Disciplinary Committee were handling complaints made by some of the aspirants about August 26’s Super Delegates Conference.
Mr Kyerematen cited intimidation and utterances by some party bigwigs as reasons for his withdrawal from the race.
“The pronouncements made by some leading members of our party both before and after the elections, also lend weight to my observations,” he stated in his official statement to announce his decision.
“The level of intimidation of varying intensity, directly and indirectly unleashed on a significant number of delegates at various voting centers across the sixteen regions is unprecedented in the history of our party,” he indicated, citing Ali Zakaria, his North East Region Polling Agent who was hit in the eye at the Nalerigu Senior High School.
Mr Kyerematen said the exercise appeared to be skewed to favour a particular aspirant.
The former Trade Minister had placed a surprise third in the Super Delegates Conference, garnering 96 out of 961 votes.
The release signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong assured the reports of the committees “will be made readily available and persons who may be found culpable of any wrongdoing will be held accountable”.
