Ofosu Ampofo appointed policy adviser at the office of the Vice President

President John Mahama has appointed Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, a former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as Policy Adviser for Political Affairs at the Office of the Vice President.

The announcement, made by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson for the President, on Tuesday, January 28, revealed the appointment of several key figures to support the Vice President in advancing the government’s agenda.

The appointees are expected to bring their diverse expertise and experience to their respective roles, contributing to the “Resetting Ghana” agenda aimed at building a better future for the nation.

Alongside Ofosu Ampofo, other appointments include Alex Segbefia as Chief of Staff to the Vice President, Maame Ama Pratt as Press Secretary, and various policy advisers such as Professor Theresah Ennin, Dr. Hamza Zakaria, and Ms. Mansa Amoa Awuah, covering sectors from economic to social policy.

Profile of Samuel Ofosu Ampofo

Born on March 10, 1962, in Kyebi, Eastern Region, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has had a long and impactful career in Ghanaian politics. A former Member of Parliament, District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa North, and Eastern Regional Minister. Mr Ofosu Ampofo has also held several key positions within the NDC, including National Organiser and National Chairman.

Mr Ofosu Ampofo’s education includes a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management & Public Administration (GIMPA). He has further qualifications from institutions like the Haggai Institute in Hawaii and the University of Education, Winneba.

 

As a Member of Parliament, he served two terms, representing the Fanteakwa North constituency from 1996 to 2004, before losing his seat in the 2004 and 2008 elections. In 2011, he was appointed Minister for Local Government and Rural Development under President John Atta Mills. In 2018, Ampofo was elected National Chairman of the NDC at the party’s 9th Delegate Congress.
