WBO Africa lightweight champion Emmanuel “Gameboy†Tagoe, has revealed that his upcoming fight on January 26 next year will be his final ring outing in Ghana.
Tagoe (29-1, 14 KOs), who will be challenging for the WBO Global and IBF International titles on January 26, said he was keen on making a mark in his final bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena. The Ghanaian boxer recently joined the DiBella Entertainment stables after signing a three-year promotional contract in his bid to become a world champion by the end of next year.
Tagoe’s decision to pair up with the American promoter, Lou DiBella, President of the renowned DiBella Entertainment, could draw him closer to compatriot lightweight contender, Richard Commey, who is also under the same outfit.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic last Tuesday, Tagoe expressed his delight at joining Lou DiBella’s camp and expressed the hope of making his final bow at home with an emphatic victory.
"I am happy to team up with Lou DiBella because I believe he has what it takes to transform me into a world champion," said the 30-year-old boxer.
"They wanted me to fight my next bout in the US but we decided to have it here in Ghana so I can engage my final fight here with an emphatic victory," Tagoe explained.
Tagoe, who is managed by Black Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan, is expected to headline the second Asamoah Gyan Fight Night Boxing series to be staged at the Bukom Boxing Arena on January 26.
