The Election Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has disqualified George Afriyie ahead of the upcoming Elective Congress on September 27 in Tamale.
Afriyie confirmed his intention to contest the current president Kurt Okraku in the forthcoming presidential elections and followed with the filing of his nomination.
While an announcement to suspend the timetable of the Electoral process was announced a few weeks ago following court proceedings, the committee have revealed the results of the vetting stating that Afriyie did not meet the necessary requirement to contest the high office.
The Committee stated a breach of “Article 13(2)(j) of the Ghana Football Association statutes, 2019,” and “failure to provide the required number of Ghana Football Association members to support your [George Afriyie’s] candidature.” as the reasons for his unsuccessful attempt.
He has however been given a three-day ultimate to appeal the decision of the Election Committee.
“Should you wish to appeal against the decision of the Election Committee, you shall be required to lodge an appeal to the GFA Appeals Committee within three (3) clear days of receipt of the Committee’s decision in writing, supported by any document(s) you wish to bring to its attention on or before 5:00 pm, Monday, 11th September 2023 in accordance with the provisions of the GFA Statutes 2019 and the GFA Regulations on Elections 2019,” the statement added.
