Mats Hummels has completed his shock transfer from Bayern Munich to Borussia Dortmund.
The World Cup winner returns to the Westfalenstadion three years after leaving.
Hummels, 30, has won three straight league titles with Die Roten, but now returns to BVB - where he previously won two Bundesliga crowns - for a fee that could reach £33million.
The World Cup winner has signed a three-year deal with Dortmund, where he previously made 309 appearances.
Talks between the two clubs advanced quickly after initial contact was made last week, with Dortmund chiefs enquiring about their former captain's availability as they sought to strengthen a defence that conceded 44 times in 34 league games last term.
Coach Lucien Favre - who this week signed his own contract extension - was keen to add more experience and Bayern boss Niko Kovac was happy to sell a player who turns 31 in December as he looks to evolve his own side.
Hummels started just 20 league games last term and his place is set to be taken in the starting XI by French defender Lucas Hernandez - signing from Atletico Madrid for £72million.
Hernandez, although first choice left-back for his country, is set to be used at the heart of defence in Bavaria, alongside Germany international Niklas Sule.
Hummels came through the ranks at Bayern, where his father was a youth coach, before joining Dortmund on loan in 2008 under Jurgen Klopp.
He completed a permanent move for just £4million the following year, going on to win two Bundesliga crowns at the Signal Iduna Park, as well as reaching the 2013 Champions League Final.
Now he returns to the club, where he will form a first-choice defensive pairing with Switzerland defender Manuel Akanji.
