U-23 AFCON: Ghana drawn in 'Group of death"

The Black Meteors of Ghana have been drawn in what can be termed the ‘group of death’ with hosts Egypt, Mali and Cameroon for the 2019 U-23 AFCON tournament.

The Black Meteors will be competing in Group A of the 8-team competition scheduled to be staged in Egypt from November 8-22.

The draw took place at at the Haramlek Palace, inside the historical Montaza Complex, Alexandria as the Pharaohs will be playing the opening match of the tournament against Mali on Friday, 8 November at the Cairo International Stadium.

Group B teams are made up of Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire, South Africa and Zambia.

The Egyptian capital, Cairo will host all Group A games with matches at the Cairo International Stadium while Al Salam Stadium will take care of Group B matches.

The Black Meteors booked their place to the November competition after edging the Fennec Foxes of Algeria 2-1 on aggregate.

The top three finishers at the final tournament will qualify to represent Africa at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The Total U-23 Africa Cup of Nations is held every four years and showcases some of African football’s emerging talents while also acting as a qualifier for the Summer Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
