Ghanaian reggae superstar Rocky Dawuni has expressed discontent with how his attempt to explain how Grammy nomination works was misrepresented by bloggers.

Rocky Dawuni said he’s very hurt with the way some Ghanaian bloggers and a section of the public twisted what he said while explaining the difference between a nominee in the Grammy and a feature in a nominated song.

Speaking to Hitz FM, Rocky said that the unexpected reaction from netizens has got his brother Stonebwoy alarmed which breaks his heart.

Rocky further said he has always had a good relationship with Stonebwoy so he sees no reason why he will speak ill of him.

He also entreated Ghanaians to desist from speculating false stories so that they can help build positive bonds in the industry.

“I love my brother. When he came to Los Angeles, he visited me, we talk all the time. He even congratulated me when I was nominated through a text. So when I go to explain how the Grammy works and then somebody takes my explanation without me even mentioning his name. And then puts my name that I said something against him, it just hurts me so much. How will my brother feel? So people should just stop it and then channel all that energy into something positive to bring us all together“, Rocky said.

When Rocky was asked by a media house last week who can be considered a Grammy nominee, he explained that being featured on an album that has a nomination at the Grammys does not make you a nominee.

This is because rules are governing who is or should be a nominee, he stated.

“There is a lot of confusion, as you would understand, Grammy nomination is for a body of work, so there is a difference between a nominee for a Grammy and also featuring to be part of a song of a Grammy-nominated album.

“You have contributed to the song, but you are not a nominee. The thing is, I am not the one saying it; you should go to the Academy website and see who are the nominees,” he said.

Some bloggers reported his explanation that he said Stonebwoy is not a Grammy nominee. At the back of this, Stonebwoy also took to social media to throw shades at Rocky Dawuni.

“Chairman is so quick to remove credit on a kid! We know them oo. But we think say them change o chai them never change,” he wrote on snapchat.

Rocky said he was hurt when he saw the shade by Stonebwoy.

The reggae musician was the first Ghanaian to have bagged a Grammy nomination in 2016.

The ‘Beautiful People’ hitmaker secured another spot for the Best Global Music Album with his Voice of BunBon, Vol. 1 album at the 64th GRAMMY Awards slated on 31st January 2022.
