The Accra Metropolitan Assembly says it has stepped up efforts to prevent the outbreak of cholera in the capital, with the intensification of the rains.
According to Public Health Director of AMA, Victor Acquaye, all 10 sub-metros under the AMA have triggered their rapid response teams, to step up public sensitization on cholera preventive measure and best practices.Â
A cholera outbreak three years ago in Accra, killed over 100 people, triggering the usual rhetoric "never again" from people in charge.
It appears though little action has followed the rhetoric, as a visit to densely populated areas by primenewsghana has revealed choked and filthy drains, one of the factors that contributed to the spread of the cholera epidemic is still very prevalent.
Images captured by primenewghana at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Kaneshie, Mallam Atta and Agbobloshie markets show sections are full of filth. These are markets thousands of people in the capital rely on for shopping.
The following are 18Â photos from these locations, which perhaps indicates the AMA is not at all serious about preventing another cholera outbreak in Accra
