The Lebanese community in Ghana has re-echoed its commitment to raising responsible and professional journalists and in the light of this awarded scholarships to 20 students of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).
This year’s awards presented by the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Ali Halabi, is the fifth set of awards since the scholarship scheme started five years ago.  In his address, His Excellency Ali Halabi urged students to exhibit excellence so that the Lebanese community will be justified in injecting resources into their studies.
He said the Lebanese community is pleased to award scholarship to fifteen undergraduate students and five post-graduate students. The scholarship packages cover the full tuition fees of fifteen undergraduate and 75% for the post-graduates.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Rector of the Institute, Dr Wilberforce Dzisah thanked the Lebanese community for the kind gesture and appealed for a similar scholarship for Public Relation students so that it wouldn’t appear they have been biased towards one particular option (Journalism).
The Lebanese community has also awarded similar scholarships to Law students at the University of Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
