The Director General of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Prof Edward Appiah, has announced that all new textbooks will have QR codes from September this year.
That, he said, was to alert prospective book buyers to know which books have been approved by NaCCA.
Professor Appiah made this known when he led a team of staff from NaCCA to visit some selected schools like in Accra.
He was hopeful that the bar codes would help regulate the influx of unauthorized textbooks onto the market.
Prof. Appiah stated the monitoring of the textbooks would be extended to the various regions to ascertain the state of approved textbooks available in schools across the country.
He stated that NaCCA would continue the nationwide sensitization on how to identify approved and unapproved books in the system.
The Director General added that the new rule would punish publishers who consistently break the law.
“There is a Legislative Instrument currently at the Attorney General Department and would be placed in parliament very soon for consideration and this would impose heavy punishment for selling unapproved books to schools,” he said.
