1. I want to be remembered as one who encouraged others to be selfless – Former Prez Kufuor

Ghana’s former President, John Agyekum Kufuor, has said he would want future generations to remember him as that individual who lived his life for others. The Chairman of the John A. Kufuor Foundation who served as President of Ghana from 2001 to 2009 in response to a question also said he wants posterity to remember him for his fairness and equal treatment of all manner of persons.

2.  Anyidoho refuses to be expelled from NDC, says ‘I remain a loyal member’

The expelled former executive of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has refused to leave the party, citing reasons for his expulsion as untenable. Mr Anyidoho has written to NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, demanding evidence of the acts of indiscipline that formed the basis for his expulsion from the party.

3. Deposed Assin North MP appeals court ruling, wants decision set aside

The deposed lawmaker for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, has headed to the Appeals Court to contest the decision by the Cape Coast High Court. According to Mr Quayson, the high court erred in its ruling that his election as Member of Parliament for the Central Region constituency is null and void and hence new elections must be organised by the Electoral Commission.

4. Kufuor Scholar invents cocoa pod processing machine

Kufuor Scholar Daniel Amoshie has invented an innovative machine that breaks more than five cocoa pods at a time and sieves the beans automatically. The machine separates beans from the husk and placenta, reduce debris in beans, and reduces time in removing the placenta during drying. The machine is fuel-powered and hence can be used in places without electricity. It also has tires for easy mobility to any farm.

5. UTAG strike rattles Labour Relations Ministry, provides updates on negotiation with agitating lecturers

The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations has in a statement provided updates on the status of their negotiations with UTAG. In a statement signed by Deputy Minister, Bright Wireko-Brobby, the Ministry said: "A government team represented by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Finance and Education on one part, and the University Teachers Association of Ghana, UTAG, on the other met today, Friday, the 30th of July, 2021 to deliberate on issues relating to Conditions of Service for UTAG."

6. Africa must build robust financial compliance systems against financial crime – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has stated that for Africa to be able to transform herself and become the epitome of economic empowerment and self-reliance, she needs to have the wherewithal to be able to protect and optimise the resources at her disposal. To this end, President Akufo-Addo, speaking at the EBII Africa Investments Risk and Compliance (IRC) Summit, on Friday, 30th July 2021, at the University of Oxford, has admonished African governments to build robust financial compliance systems, and ensure strict enforcement of these systems.

7. Latest data suggests strong half year 2021 growth

New data released by the Bank of Ghana a week ago suggests that Ghana’s ongoing economic rebound may have reached new heights during the first half of 2021 after the economy suffered its first recession in three and a half decades during the second and third quarters of 2020. The central bank’s Composite Index of Economic Activity, CIEA recorded an increase of 33.1 per cent for the 12 months up to May, its biggest recorded year on year increase to date.

9. Tokyo 2020: Samuel Takyi focused on winning gold for Ghana

Samuel Takyi has switched his focus on winning gold for Team Ghana after entering the medal zone of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The 20-year-old boxer on Sunday made the nation proud as he won his featherweight quarter-final 3-2 on points over Colombia's Ceiber David Segura to guarantee himself at least a bronze medal in Tokyo.

10. Former Chelsea and AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko steps down as Ukraine boss

Andriy Shevchenko has left his role as head coach of Ukraine, the former Chelsea striker announced on Instagram. Shevchenko, 44, was appointed head coach in 2016 and led Ukraine to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020, where they were beaten 4-0 by England in Rome.

13. Transfers hit Police Service as new IGP takes office

The Acting Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has on his first day at work, reorganised the police service through transfers and new responsibilities. The new changes take effect from August 1, 2021, according to a circular signed by Dr Dampare. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Samuel Kwasi Ofori, In-charge (i/c) of Operations, Greater Accra Region, is now the Public Affairs Director (PAD) General of the Ghana Police Service (GPS).
