Karela United's administration manager and head of communications, Eric Aligidede has confirmed Asante Kotoko's interest in their star striker cum captain William Opoku Mensah.
The Porcupine Warriors are bent on bolstering their squad for the CAF Confederation Cup Group stage campaign.
After failing to land AshantiGold trio Shafiu Mumuni, James Akaminko, and Richard Dodji, the Reds are said to have opened talks with Karela.
The 22-year-old is the latest to be on the radar of the Kumasi-based side but faces stern opposition from an unknown MLS side Eric Aligidede confirms on Agyenkwa FM in Kumasi.
"Kotoko have communicated to us on the acquisition of the service of our player and captain William Opoku Mensah but we are now facing a difficult challenge because an MLS SIDE(USA CLUB) alert us that they also want him", he confirmed.
"We confronted the player (William Opoku Mensah) and he made it clear that he has had a feeling of playing in Ghana and for Kotoko but needs to continue elsewhere and that he opted for a move to the USA".
"The boy says he has a greater ambition of playing for the National team (Black Stars) and that the MLS will help him attain those feet."
"The player was willing to play for Asante Kotoko but he is considering MLS as the most priority", he ended.
The talented forward netted seven goals in the first half of the truncated Ghana Premier League.
