Kotoka International Airport the second safest airport in Africa

The Kotoka International Airport has been adjudged the second safest airport in Africa at the 28th Airport Council International (ACI) Africa Annual General Assembly Conference And Exhibition in Accra.

Kotoka International Airport was acknowledged for over 20,000 air traffic movement.

The Ghana Airport Company also revealed that it will replicate the safety standards at all airports in the country as Ghana works to become the aviation hub in the subregion.

Managing Director of the Company Yaw Kwakwa speaking after award said the company is more focused on making airports in the country very safe.

"Everything that we are doing at Kotoka, we are going to scale it to the other airports, if you do well at one airport and you don't at the other it's not good, for example............ operation that we did at Kotoka is driven by a certain measure in the sector and that measure is driven by the fact that we don't want a certain amount of rubber on the runway, this is the first measure to define standards.."

Also speaking at the event President Akufo-Addo said, "The application of digital innovation and automation is a priority if airports in Africa are to compete with their counterparts across the world."

According to him, as recently pointed out at a recent SMART Airports conference in Singapore, free, fast internet, for example, has now become a must-have in airports across the world, if your airport is to be described as SMART. From automated check-ins, passport control, and boarding, to reducing the amounts of time spent going through security, airports around the world are finding ways to make the time spent there more pleasurable.
