Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, has demanded an unqualified apology and GH₵10 million in compensation from the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, over alleged defamatory remarks.
In a legal notice dated April 3, 2025, and issued by R.O. Solomon Consulting, Mrs. Mogtari accuses Abronye of making “false, reckless, and malicious” statements during an interview on Net 2 TV on March 26, 2025.
According to the notice, Abronye claimed during the broadcast that Mrs. Mogtari had declined a ministerial position in favour of a “stress-free presidential staffer position” with a monthly salary of GHS95,000. He further alleged that this decision had made her “disrespectful to Ghanaians.”
The legal team contends that these claims, which have since been widely circulated online—including on platforms such as GhanaWeb—have subjected Mrs. Mogtari to “serious embarrassment,” public ridicule, and damage to her reputation.
The letter also highlights that Abronye’s allegations were not only factually baseless but could have easily been disproven, as information regarding Mrs. Mogtari’s appointment is publicly available and verifiable.
In response, Mrs. Mogtari’s legal team is demanding the following:
- An immediate retraction of the statements and a public apology to be published on all platforms that carried the story, including Net 2 TV, GhanaWeb, MyJoyOnline, Channel One TV, and Citi FM.
- Payment of GH₵10 million in compensation for the reputational harm and distress caused.
